My parents bought the house shortly after you toured it. I lived there from the early 40's through the early 50's, and it did indeed have a chapel in the basement. My parents respectfully dismantled it after discussion with various clergy. The story I was told was that it had belonged to Vaughn DeLeath, that she had been excommunicated from the Roman Catholic Church because she was divorced, ,and so she set up her own place of worship.
