Another place of interest in the saga of Major Edward Bowes is Ossining, New York. Major Bowes and his wife, Margaret Illington, lived on remote Allapartus Road in a four-plus acre estate they named "Laurel Hill". Although his main residence burned to the ground in the late 1930's, the rest of the buildings are still there. In 1939, Major Bowes donated this estate to the Lutheran Church to be a retreat center in the heart of the lower Hudson River Valley, where it bears his name and is active to this day. You can see photos of the property at www.majorbowesmemorialretreat.org.
